Climate-Eval Takes Part in Global Assembly of IDEAS

On

Our community of practice took part in the Global Assembly of the International Development Evaluation Association. The main theme of the conference was Evaluation in Times of Turbulence: The Crises of Food, Fuel and Finance.

Climate-Eval added a focus on evaluation of climate change by organizing a panel session on linkages between climate change evaluation and triple crises. The panel was chaired by Kabir Hashim, a Member of Parliament in Sri Lanka. Dr. Christine Woerlen from Arepo Consult in Germany presented a progressing meta-evaluation of mitigation evaluations. She discussed the theory of change and barriers to energy efficiency behavior. Robert D. van den Berg, Director of the Global Environment Facility Evaluation Office, presented evaluation of adaptation initiatives. Dr. Lesley Breitner-Czuma, from the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia talked about the gap analysis on climate change adaptation in Central Asia. The session was followed by a discussion on questions ranging from possibility to establish of theory of change for climate change mitigation on the global level, to challenges of attribution in evaluating adaptation interventions. Robert D. van den Berg invited participants to join the community of practice and continue discussion there.

Climate-Eval also organized a booth presentation of the community of practice. The booth generated a lot of interest among the conference participants. During the IDEAS General Assembly session Robert D. van den Berg extended a formal invitation to the IDEAS to cooperate with Climate-Eval to work on identification of good practices and development of guidelines for evaluation of climate change initiatives. We look forward to greet new members that we met during the conference and to collaborate with the International Development Evaluation Association.
