Earth-Eval is an online Community of Practice hosted by the Global Environment Facility Independent Evaluation Office (GEF IEO) since 2010. Its goal is to support evaluation capacity and share good practices and innovative methods in environmental evaluation.
Over the years, monitoring and evaluation practitioners in government and multilateral development banks, international organisations, civil society and academia joined Earth Eval becoming members of a global network of peers.
Earth-Eval's milestones
Earth-Eval, initially named Climate-Eval, was launched during the 1st International Conference on Evaluating Environment and Development, in Alexandria, Egypt, in 2008.
Subsequently Earth-Eval co-organised the following International Conferences with GEF IEO: the 2nd in Washington D.C. in 2014, the 3rd in Prague in 2019, and the recent 4rth International Conference on Evaluating Environment and Development which took place Washington D.C. in March 2024.
Earth-Eval also sponsored a range of pioneering studies and publications:
-
Framework for Monitoring and Evaluation of Adaptation to Climate Change (2011)
-
Scoping Study on Evaluation of Natural Resource Management Interventions linked to Climate Change (2015)
-
Evaluating Climate Change Action for Sustainable Development (2017)
The Earth-Eval Community has gathered over 1,000 registered members who actively contributed to its blogs, events and knowledge products, helping to raise awareness and strengthen understanding on evaluation for environmental and climate change progress.
What's next?
Earth-Eval is currently going through a renewal process aimed to expand its offer and respond to the evolution of the evaluation community needs.
