The objective of the project was to reduce the CO2 emissions of Slovenia by removing barriers to the increased use of biomass as an energy source.

This GEF project was designed to remove barriers to the increased use of biomass as an energy source, thereby reducing the fossil fuel consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

Wood biomass is the most abundant renewable energy resource in Slovenia, and the construction of biomass-based district heating (BDH) systems is a potential means of achieving greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions.

The principal objective of the Project was to assist Slovenia in the cost-effective phaseout of ODS consumption as mandated by the Montreal Protocol (the Protocol) and its amendments and adjustments.
