Environment 5: Blending quantative with qualitative analysis in understanding change
The session on Blending Quantitative with Qualitative Analysis in Understanding Change includes four talks on the experiences of various organizations in conducting mixed-method evaluations. The presentation on "Evaluating Natural Resource Management in the context of smallholder agricultural development: IFAD's experience" summarizes the multi-year institutional experience at IFAD in systematizing the evaluation of performance in natural resource management and climate change adaptation. The presentation on " Asian Development Bank’s Experience and Approaches in Assessing Environment" presents the findings and lessons from recent evaluations at ADB across its portfolio focusing on evolving methods and approaches to measure environmental outcomes. The presentation on "Application of geospatial methods and remote sensing for evaluation" discusses the use of geospatial data and methods in the Independent Evaluation Office of the GEF to assess the results of environmental interventions while highlighting lessons on how challenges related to use of these innovative methods may be addressed . The presentation "Evaluating Forest Monitoring for Impact" presents the evaluation of the open data-initiative, Global Forest Watch, and discusses the methods and strategies for effectively measuring big-data initiatives for the environment.
